Running a remote job search across time zones

Remote work opens roles in other countries — and a new set of questions about working hours, overlap and expectations. A little targeting up front saves you from chasing roles that were never going to fit your life.

Read the overlap requirement first

The single most important detail in a cross-zone remote listing is the required overlap: how many of your working hours must coincide with the team’s. "Fully async", "4 hours overlap with US Pacific", and "must work core CET hours" are three completely different jobs. Screen on this before you invest in an application.

Target by fit, not just by title

When you search across regions, add your constraints to the filter so the results are livable.

  • Decide your acceptable working window and filter out roles demanding overlap you cannot sustain.
  • Prefer companies that state async or flexible expectations if your zone is far from theirs.
  • Watch region-specific boards as well as global ones — some roles are only posted where the company expects to hire.

Present the zone difference as a non-issue

If a role’s stated overlap genuinely works for you, say so plainly. Stating "I can reliably work 3–5pm your time" up front removes the recruiter’s main worry about a distant applicant. Do not overpromise hours you cannot hold — a mismatch surfaces fast and badly once you are hired.

Let a monitor handle the spread

Watching global and regional boards across zones by hand is exactly the kind of repetitive coverage a monitor should own. EasyJobs watches multiple sources and regions on your schedule, de-duplicates, and scores each role against your résumé — so you can add your own overlap filter on top and only spend time on roles that actually fit your hours.

Frequently asked questions

Should I hide my location when applying to remote roles abroad?
No — be upfront. If the overlap works, stating your zone and available hours reassures the recruiter. If it does not work, hiding it only wastes both parties’ time later.
How do I find fully-async remote roles?
Look for explicit language about async work and minimal overlap in the listing, and favour companies that advertise it. Monitoring several remote sources at once surfaces far more of these than checking one board.
